Unsafe mineral water brands in Pakistan

There are a large number of mineral water companies that are providing water under the tag of pure mineral water which is in real unsafe for human consumption. They only aim to generate large sales and maximize their profits. Such labels do not give importance to customer health and protection and have poor quality standards.

Consumers either purchase such bottles of mineral water as they are priced at cheap cost, or certain consumers are not conscious of the brand, and they do not check the label before purchasing. It is very important for consumers to distinguish between low quality and high-quality mineral water brands and to buy mineral water from specific brands to avoid health issues.

The Pakistan Water Research Council (PCRWR) declared 12 out of 77 distilled water products hazardous for human consumption. Samples were obtained from widely distributed mineral / bottled water brands from 14 separate cities around the country.

According to the PCRWR, high levels of arsenic can cause skin diseases, diabetes, kidney diseases, hypertension, heart disease, birth defects, black foot disease, and several kinds of cancer.

MM Pure and Blue Spring also contain a high proportion of Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) about which the PCRWR reported that microbiological bacteria can cause cholera, diarrhea, dysentery, hepatitis, and typhoid.

Additionally, Dista Water and DJOUR have bacteriological components higher than the healthy and balanced maximum of 0/100 ml, causing all products microbiologically unhealthy for consumption as well.

The Government, via the Ministry of Science and Technology, tasked the PCRWR with quarterly inspection of distilled and mineral water products, several of which were found to be supplying polluted water.

The poor quality of drinking water has forced a large section of the population to buy bottled water. However, consumers should be very cautious when purchasing mineral water and avoid buying from unknown mineral water companies to prevent any harm.
