Tips to Survive load shedding in Pakistan

Pakistan is facing load shedding crisis for many years but no steps have ever been taken to overcome this problem. Many areas of Pakistan including vast areas of Karachi spend many hours of their day without light. People are tired of these regular power cuts and it is really hard to survive especially in this hot season.

In our previous article, we told you about the ways to save electricity and reduce load shedding crisis in Pakistan. We hope many of you are working on it for the betterment of our country, Pakistan. Now today we will discuss 15vways to survive load shedding. So, let’s get started.

Determine the exact timings of load shedding

The first step you need to follow is to know when exactly load shedding occurs, for how long, and how many times in a day. In some areas, the timings change frequently while in most areas the timing is fixed. You can also know about the timings by calling your electricity provider. This way you can make preparations before the load shedding.

Prepare things before the load shedding

You can perform all your tasks like ironing the clothes, charging mobiles and emergency lights or any other work you think you cannot do without electricity before the power cut to prevent any further issues for you.

Buy a power bank

If you are an online worker and load shedding don’t let you work you can simply buy a power bank to charge your laptop or mobile when there is no electricity. You can also recharge your mobile to subscribe to any data package so that you can connect your laptop and have internet access. This way your work will not be affected by load shedding.

Keep rechargeable fans and lights fully charged

If you have rechargeable fans and lights, you should charge them full to use them during load shedding. Try to buy as many rechargeable lights and fans as you can because they help you a lot to survive during power cuts.

Keep the water bottles in the freezer

As water dispensers and refrigerator both are operated by electricity, during load shedding they will stop working. You can fill the plastic water bottles and freeze them in the freezer so that you can use them later during load shedding.

Turn off all the appliances before you leave the house

If you are leaving your house before you expect the power cut, you should turn off all the appliances including refrigerator, water dispenser, or air conditioner as Voltage fluctuations can short-circuit the devices, and this also happens with repeated power failures due to load shedding. It’s best to turn off appliances that are not in use 24/7. This is just a safety measure to avoid harm to appliances.

Buy candles and gas lamp

You should also keep a pack of candles and a gas lamp in your house. Despite rechargeable lights, it’s the best and cheap way. Gas lamps provide light to a large area for a long time. Sometimes load shedding can be for several hours. In this situation, your rechargeable lights may die. Candles and gas lamps can be used in these cases.

Find a good activity for yourself

To spend the time quickly you can read books, play games like Ludo or monopoly, or listen to songs when it is load shedding hour.

Try to gather in one room

If all the family members will stay in different rooms during load shedding hour, there would be greater use of candles, rechargeable lights, and fans. You can stay in one room with your family members to save the usage of the rechargeable lights and fans to use them if the power cut is for longer hours.

Keep your first aid box close to you

In case of any injury, you do not have to look for your first aid box in dark.

Keep mobile phones near you

If you face several hours of load shedding with no fixed timings, you should always keep your mobile phones close to you

Keep an extra pair of battery

You should always keep an extra pair of batteries so that you can use them when your old batteries die.

Replace your electric stoves with gas stoves

If you face frequent power cuts in your area you should replace your electric oven and stoves with gas. This will allow you to cook or heat your food during electrical load shedding.

Consider buying a UPS

You can buy UPS to keep some of your lights and fans working during power cuts. Ups may not be able to operate for longer hours and can neither handle the load of electrical appliances but you can survive a few hours of load shedding easily.

If nothing suits you best, buy a generator

If you cannot survive with all these options you should consider buying a generator. This option may be expensive but it is the best option to spend your load shedding hours with a generator. You can buy a small or big generator according to your need.

With all the ways mentioned above, you can spend a few hours of load shedding without having to run for torches, getting worried about mobile battery dying, or any other problems.
